Illuminated

I'm really happy with the way this piece turned out, because the technique has been a battle to get right. The Wine Bar and Duality pieces below have a similar technique, but the pieces are super heavy. This one is feather light. The only problem is that it still costs a small fortune to make.

The inspiration behind the piece began with Mondrian. I was reading about his Neoplatonic movement, and I was also reading about Plato's philosophy at the time. So it just kind of came together. This is a paraphrase of some of his ideas: "The soul is illuminated by the light from the One. God is the central light. Closest to the light are eternal ideas, primal, universial forms. The human soul, above all, is the spark from the fire." This piece catches the act of the soul reaching for the divine.

  1. I really like the spiritual significance, colors, and 3-D aspects of this painting. In many ways, it's how I visualize myself when I'm privately in prayer with God.

  2. Will, I am glad to see you experimenting with interesting techniques and solid philosophy. It is coming together quiet nicely. Keep at it my friend.

Also thanks for the comment on my blog.

On a side note, I take the LEED test on the 29th so any prayer or helpful advice would be highly appreciated. Also Laura and I have talked about a trip to Austin sometime later this summer and would love to see you.
